Movie Review: Top Boxing Movies Past & Present


Boxing as everone understands it, is much more then jabs, hits and knockouts, although that is what may win a fight, there is much more to it than that. One of the most important ingredients of boxing is "Heart & Commitmint" then you follow throuh with your body. One way to get a glimps of what it takes to get into that ring to eventually compete and ultimately win for the opportunity to win that championship belt, is to check out the life stories and aweome movies created on the topic on this awesome sport.

• Rocky - Drama/Sport / Released November 21, 1976 (USA) ~
(Brief commentary) - One of the greatest sports movie due primerly to the heart of this film and Stallones stellar proformance of how he protray's the life and story of an unknown boxer (Rocky Balboa) who has to go up agenst unsurmountable odds and wins and inaddition to that insires all those know as the underdog in any worthwhile endeavor to go for it, whatever your heart see's as truth, respect and drive. Truly a must see movie for all ages.

Synopsis
Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone), a small-time boxer from working-class Philadelphia, is arbitrarily chosen to take on the reigning world heavyweight champion, Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), when the undefeated fighter's scheduled opponent is injured. While training with feisty former bantamweight contender Mickey Goldmill (Burgess Meredith), Rocky tentatively begins a relationship with Adrian (Talia Shire), the wallflower sister of his meat-packer pal Paulie (Burt Young).

• Rocky II - Drama/Sport / Released June 15, 1979 (USA) ~
(Brief commentary) - Yes It is another Rocky movie except this time it shows the pitfalls of sucess and what can happen to someone who comes from "not much" to a lot of money. Part two displays the fight back up to the top not from boxing but from life. This movie does a great job in tieing into the first Rocky Movie.

Synopsis
Although working-class Philadelphia boxer Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) lost his high-profile bout with the cocky world champion Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), his Cinderella story has caught the national sports media's attention, and he now has the opportunity to capitalize on his sudden fame. Meanwhile, Creed is still smarting from nearly losing to some palooka no one has ever heard of, and arrogantly prods his newfound nemesis into getting back into the ring.

• The Hurricane - Released December 14, 1999 (USA) ~

(Brief commentary) - This movie is actually the life story of Rubin The Hurricane Carter played by Denzel Washington a truly well written and well acted film of awarness which showcasses sometimes how wrongly and unfare the system can be. A real powerful movie and worth the watch

Synopsis
Denzel Washington is Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, a man whose dreams of winning the middleweight boxing title were destroyed when he was arrested along with another man for the murders of 3 people in a New Jersey bar. Wrongfully accused, Carter and John Artis were sentenced to 3 life terms in prison.

• Million Dollar Baby - Drama/Sport -/ Released December 15, 2004 (USA) ~
(Brief commentary) - In The sprit of Rocky this movie is an awesome look into "if you want it bad enough" you have to fight for it. Million Dollar Baby is mainly about including women into the sport of boxing and how one woman Maggie chase's her boxing dreams and meets with the twists and turns along the way of reaching her dream. very inspirational movie

Synopsis
Frankie Dunn (Clint Eastwood) is a veteran Los Angeles boxing trainer who keeps almost everyone at arm's length, except his old friend and associate Eddie "Scrap Iron" Dupris (Morgan Freeman). When Maggie Fitzgerald (Hilary Swank) arrives in Frankie's gym seeking his expertise, he is reluctant to train the young woman, a transplant from working-class Missouri. Eventually, he relents, and the two form a close bond that will irrevocably change them both.
